This stereotypical Nerdy Purdy lookin Japanese man is Ito Seiko. He is one of if not, the pioneer of Japanese Rap. He paved the way for Japanese lyricists and had the foresight to infuse it with a unique expressive style that feels very relevant 20 years later. Forget The Teriyaki Boyz and Nitro Microphone Underground for a sec and peep this.

This track is called Tokyo Bronx and was recorded in 1985. Take whatever you remember about Rap and Hip Hop from 1985 and cross reference it with this. While you’re at it cross it with today’s artists. I probably wouldn’t know what to think of this if I heard this in ‘85. You might not understand the Japanese but lyrically it’s genius. The beat is just way ahead of it’s time.
Another example of music ahead of it’s time. Yann Tomita laying down some ill down tempo in 1987.

First a disclaimer. I really don’t eat this good on a regular. The sushi from the other day and today’s tasty treat was a coincidence. But no one’s buying that coz I’m such a pudgy bastard. Damn it!
Anyway, I wasn’t expecting my dad to order take-out but he did. Mad excellent of him. This is Katsudon from Akitaya and I gotta say as a Katsudon connoisseur, this place is consistently one of the few that pulls it off nicely.

The way I see it, the key is keeping the Katsu moist and juicy. You can tell with how the egg is cooked. Just the right amount of runnynes.

My friends Robert and his wife Jill saw my entry about the Sushi and checked out Akitaya last night. What I didn’t know at the time(and failed to inform them) was Sushi is abit more expensive at night :O mah baaad~ Also, Akitaya is more known for the Sushi and the Nabemono among other things so if you’re looking for a joint that really specializes in say, Ramen then you gotta look around else where. I’ll post up some info on that sometime.
Now don’t hate on a ninja but this was my lunch today. No, I didn’t go out for lunch, I had this delivered to me at home.

You are drooling over a custom assortment of Nigirizushi. From the left: Unagi, Futomaki and Battera.

If this made you hungry, the place is called Akitaya (秋田屋) Tel.813-7475 ground floor, Mile Long Bldg., Amorsoro cor. Herrera Sts., Legaspi Village, Makati City.
They don’t do deliveries and the stuff in the photo was a special order but you won’t regret dining there. If you enjoyed the food, let the owners know. Mr. and Mrs. Kawamura are good people.
Made out of the finest Washi paper and treated with a delicate wax coating. Could these have been special ordered from Fukuoka Japan?

If you purchased the Pac-Q Crimson from HatClub last month, then you already got the first taste of these certificates. Along with the new rubber hang tags, we’re working to create a unique experience for our customers. Let us know how we’re doing by dropping us a line right here.
In the meantime, here is what you can expect from the WIP x Hat Club team-up.
The ‘Pac-Q Teal’ which drops this November.

And with the Cotto fight coming up on the 14th, we had to come correct with this ‘Pac-Q Fight’ joint. Read more about them here.

By the way, part 2 of Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto 24/7 on HBO is out already.

Oh Manny, what would you do without Roach?
Current_ has a 6 part music special that kicked off on October 14.

First installment was the mighty Mos Def. An hour long feature on Mos. Current_ follows the man around Japan as he does concerts, shopping in Shibuya and all that boring stuff. I was hoping to see him catch-up with DJ Honda but that didn’t happen.
It’s been a while since I’ve visited my father land. If I had the funds, I’d go in a heart beat. I’ve got friends egging me to come and move there which makes it even more confusing. Hopefully WIP CAPS would be my excuse to go back real soon.

Click on the Play icon and watch the feature right here
The new album is The Ecstatic. Needless to say it’s seriously a dope album. I already got my favorite joints picked out. Choice has to be Casa Bey.
Lyrically he is just untouchable, no doubt, but what really makes it heat to me is when he breaks into that funk with the horns at around 0:40. Dooope!
Keep it locked on Current_ for the next installments which includes Ben Harper, Common and Thievery Corporation.

So, my man Gino Dalao blogged about the life size Gandam installation in Tokyo. That was cool and all but I gotta school kids on the true OG Japanese Robo.
What you all know bout that Tetsujin 28-go?
